backarrow PRESS STATEMENT: Advisory on Check-in Processes at MCIA

December 22, 2021

The devastation caused by Typhoon Odette on the island of Cebu resulted in substantial damage affecting the structures and systems of Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA). With the lack of commercial power supplies and severely limited connectivity currently being experienced, a major portion of the operations at MCIA is being operated manually and on back-up generators.

MCIA is also operating with limited manpower as many airport staff and their families have been affected by the typhoon and transportation continues to be a challenge due to impassable roads and fuel shortages.

To manage the crowd inside the boarding gates, entry to the check-in counters will be prioritized for passengers in order of flight numbers to reduce congestion. Passengers are advised to confirm with their airlines before proceeding to the airport.

We will continue to assist our passengers with our current resources, but we ask for the patience and understanding of everyone as the community of Cebu as a whole struggles with recovery efforts.

Thank you and keep safe.
